Don't Let Go by Harper Fox

3.0

3.5 stars. Well, now I'm officially invested in this series, and its not because of the mysteries (although they are intriguing in their own right.) No, it's because of burly, gruff cop Gideon and gentle, quietly confident Lee, and their relationship with each other.

There's something beautiful about the balance these different men bring to the relationship they share; they charmed and broke my heart with how their love for each other keeps growing.

I'm making this one sound like a romance, and in a way, it is: the mystery in Don't Let Go is wrapped up in both Lee's past and Gideon's present. Gideon is recovering from a job-related injury, and Lee is facing down some old family history; both men are forced to face some inner demons. It's a touch more supernatural than the other two books, but Fox still frames it in a way as to be just within the realms of possibility.

The books keep getting deeper; another layer of their love for each other is revealed, we get a look into Lee's Cornish background, and Gideon's acceptance of himself (and his family, including the not-as-dour-as-he-appears older brother Ezekiel.)
