this story follows edna, a wife and mother of two, who falls in love with another man. it questions the morality of infidelity, societal expectations of women, and more. although the description says “although the theme of marital infidelity no longer shocks,” i have to disagree; this is a theme that still shocks me and i feel like most media containing the theme are from a husband’s viewpoint, not a wife’s. i can see why this book has long been studied and debated over.
