The Marker Chronicles by Danielle DeVor
3.0
Review based on the first book as, while I liked it I'm not in a rush to finish the other two in the series just yet. It was good and there are elements I really want to know more about, like being a 'marker' (in Book 1 a crazy old man calls him this but by the end we still didn't have the meaning). Jimmy seems to be able to see the 'colour' of spells which I find quite interesting. I liked his battle with being a Catholic versus believing his girlfriends witch side. I also liked his battle with doing an exorcism now he's no longer a priest and the way in which they resolved that.
The story is good and pretty creepy however far too much of it for me was a copy of the Exorcist. The book even references it when talking about exorcisms. It felt like a modern day version (using technology to record evidence). The ending seemed to happen so fast I felt like it was a blink and miss it event. Too much build up and then over so fast.
So while I enjoyed it enough to finish the series of three I didn't enjoy it enough to prioritise them over other books to read.
