The Late Show by Michael Connelly

5.0

The introductory novel to Detective Ballard does not disappoint. Where most writers would have trouble juggling two storylines across a novel, Connelly deftly swings three cases across the length of the book, all while building new characters and expanding his Bosch universe even further. Ballard provides an interesting protagonist, with a lot to explore in future stories. Bonus points in a cop shop world for the respect and candor Ballard shows one of her cases, an assault on a trans woman.
