Library Lion by Kevin Hawkes, Michelle Knudsen

5.0

Library Lion by Michelle Knudsen is a cute story of a lion becoming a helper at the library. The Lion shows up one day and stays for story time, where he finds he loves stories. The Lion learns the rules from Miss Meriweather, who is a rule stickler, which include no roaring. The Lion shows up early every day before story time to help Miss Meriweather until one day when Miss Meriweather falls and breaks her arm. To get Mr. McBee's attention the Lion has to roar very loud which he knows is against the rules so afterward the Lion leaves and doesn't come back for several days until Mr. McBee informs him that sometimes rules need to be broken. This book is wonderful for teaching about library rules/rules in general and how sometimes in emergencies rules need to be broken. This book is also a feel-good story for children and would be a wonderful read-aloud in a primary classroom. I would use this book in my classroom to teach rules and how sometimes rules can be flexible. The book also has humor as it is a lion in the library.
