Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

4.0

look, i know i’m over ten years late to this party. but you know what? i’m super happy to be here. i really really enjoyed this book, and i rate based on enjoyment, so that’s why this is getting a 4. but that’s not to say that i didn’t still have some issues with it. still, it was honestly so much fun. it had all the things i love in books: vampires, magic, a boarding school, girls that are really badass. i really liked rose as a protagonist, and liked seeing her development over the course of the book. that being said, i did have a couple issues with it, most of witch can be attributed to the time in which it was written. the first being all the slut shaming. i mean come on people, that was never a good look. there were a couple times it was challenged which made me feel a little better, but still, all the “blood whore” talk was just not it for me. next, i was pretty confused about the 3 different types of vampires for a while, and it took me way too long to understand all the differences between them. last but not least, was the relationship between rose and dimitri. why did they need to be 7 yrs apart??? why couldn’t rose just be 18 instead of 17??? anyway, i’m glad that it was addressed at the end of the book at least, and that made it a lot better for me lol.
