4.5. oh man this book was so good wow. when i read book two, i will definitely be doing a review of the duology because hot shit this book blew the grisha trilogy out of the water, and has gotten me back into wanting to read bigger fantasy books again!! just a few issues with the little urgency of the heist aspect, but i still loved this.

2023 edit: bumped up to 5 stars. i love this book so fucking much, idk why i haven't continued to book 2 after all these years, because it's truly one of my forever faves.
