I read this for the October Happily Ever After Romance Book Club at Blue Cypress Books in New Orleans, LA.

This had been on my reading list for a while, but I hadn't been grabbing it, so I was looking forward to reading it for book club. October went so fast that I didn't read it until the last minute, which may impact some of my feelings about it.

I feel like this romance was so unimportant and not central to the plot that I didn't care about it all. I didn't really feel it when he started liking her, and I thought she had a bit of instalove that wasn't very interesting either.

This book was much more about the found family and other plots, all of which worked for me until two things were revealed: Jamie's backstory and the story's major twist. Both were so dramatic and quickly revealed and dealt with that they felt they were only there to be serious drama. I also felt like this book would have benefited greatly from some initial trigger warnings.

The resolutions all moved too quickly, and certain people's attitudes changed suddenly without any actual development. Altogether, it felt like the plot, in the beginning, was too stretched out for the cozy part, letting the reveals all be too squashed together with their resolutions.

While all of the characters were just very sweet, it felt like I needed a little more of everything.
