3.5

This is hard for me because a few people I know really enjoy this series and knowing it’s like a classic paranormal romance, I had a little bit of high expectations for it. Usually for my preferred romances, even in series that are slow burn, I enjoy at least knowing who the love interest is and having some type of flirtatious moment or even banter that gives me a hint of what’s to come. This was pretty much nonexistent and when it was, you’re questioning if it’s actually real or a side effect from other things. Additionally, this was a lot darker than I thought it would be. I can definitely get behind a good non consent consent situation but this definitely wasn’t that and almost put me off continuing on the book. I’m happy though that I did, because the ending is honestly what really pushed this up to even a 3.5 because I quickly became intrigued with the world building, overarching plot, and the future of this story.
