Johannes Cabal the Detective by Jonathan L. Howard

5.0

In a fit of whimsy, I hereby announce I will give everyone five stars, but the reviews may not reflect it.

I liked the first book. I didn't love it, but it was fun. I liked this one far less and felt like at times it was a chore to get through (or zoned out as it was an audiobook). This time he's more of a spy, solving a murder that has political implications. The humans who perpetuated this were far less entertaining than the demons and otherworldly denizens of the first and even Cabal sense of superiority (a highlight) had slackened off. There were some moments that were hilarious, but they were few and far between.
