"My mother said I could be anything
I wanted to - but I chose to live."
I rarely cry over books (unlike other matters!!), but I nearly cried my eyes out over almost all of these poems.
I had a hard time believing On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous was fiction and not based on Ocean Vuong's life, and now, after reading this I know why. It was, in fact, retrieved from the truth. The novel and the poetry collection shared a lot of details, and it was hard to witness the truth being way worse than the story.
The poems, lord, I'm speechless... I really want to say more, but I can't- this man, Ocean Vuong, is a genius.
Would 100% recommend this, no CW, as far as I'm concerned.
