This book is what I'd classify as an 'important read'. It shines a light on systemic racism and police brutality. The perspective of 16-year-old Starr and the pressure to live across two different worlds, provides some understanding to the issues facing many communities that I will never experience. Well worth a read. Even though this is fiction, it is firmly rooted in the realities of gangs, gun violence and drug dealers.
