Daddy Issues: Love and Hate in the Time of Patriarchy by Katherine Angel

informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

Angel does a fantastic job at teasing apart the theory aspect of the ‘daddy issues’ phenomenon, and how both love and hate for a parent can reinforce the patriarchal structure. Angel’s discussions pull from all forms of media, and from as early as the childhood of Virginia Woolf to the present to dissect the Western archetype of the father and his impact on not just the daughter, but on all women in the father’s life (mother, wife, daughter). Both dense and accessible, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a jumping off point into more theory!
