My Brother Sam Is Dead by Christopher Collier, James Lincoln Collier

2.0

I was debating over whether to give this two or three stars. For most of the book, I considered it to be pretty good for assigned reading. But then . . . that ending. That ending was dumb as fuck. I'm sorry, but there is no better way to phrase it (or if there is, I don't care to use it). Also, what in the world is with the title? Why would you call a book My Brother Sam is Dead when he doesn't die until the last page? That's like calling Titanic "The Ship is Sinking."

But aside from the ending, this was a pretty decent book. I really liked how realistically the authors portrayed the war, how they made it very plain that neither side is pure and good and perfect. There are many, many shades of gray, and it really makes you question whether you'd have been a Tori or a Patriot if you were in this position.
