Another Day, by David Levithan

4.0

I really enjoyed reading Rhiannon's POV. I loved the first book but I felt like part of it was missing, and I had a feeling that there were things that she wasn't telling A. Another Day fills in these gaps. I reread Every Day in anticipation of this one, so the back-to-back reading experience made it like a complete movie in my head. I just really wanted to know more about Rhiannon and Justin's story from her side without being blinded by A's love. Also, I really wanted to know what happened after Rhiannon's last scene in the first book, so this satisfied my curiosity. The ending does leave it open for a sequel, which could be interesting if well written, but I did enjoy the mystery of leaving A's existence unexplained so I would be okay if he didn't write another book for these characters.

All that being said, the reason this gets 4 stars instead of 5 is Rhiannon's inner monologue. I understood that this would be the same story from her perspective, but Levithan adds so many extra thoughts that I don't think needed to be in there. Every time I came upon a line of dialogue I recognized from the original story, she would have something to say to herself about it, and it got a bit distracting after a while, and sometimes repetitive. For example, when they talk about her being a vegetarian, she thinks to herself about how she is so sick of being asked that, but then later she says out loud to him "I'm just sick of the question." I much more preferred the scenes without A because I already knew what they talked about, and I mostly liked reading her thoughts when he was gone, and meeting new characters that A wasn't able to meet.

TL;DR-

Pros: Deleted scenes for Every Day.
Cons: The scenes you already know are kinda cluttered.
