Shards of Hope by Nalini Singh

5.0

Aden, leader of the Arrow squad, and Zaira, one of his commanders, are abducted by an unknown group. They do escape, but they're badly injured. The incident isn't good PR for the Arrows, making them appear weak.

Now that Silence has fallen, Aden wants to take the Arrows in an entirely new direction. He wants to introduce emotions, play, and the concept of family to the squad. He begins with Zaira, with whom he's essentially had an infatuation since they were younger. This is their love story. It's the story of two people who don't know how to have emotions, let alone love, touch, or have sex. It's poignant, touching, and--at times--funny. Ladies, you'll fall in love with Aden.

The danger doesn't end with the abduction of Aden and Zaira. Someone is out to destabilize the fledgling new world. Political maneuvering, assassination attempts, and kidnappings abound. There's also a psychopath on the loose.

Along the way, we meet a new changeling pack, RainFire. Aden and Zaira spend some time with them. I can't wait to read its alpha's story!

I've only scratched the surface of this book because I don't want to spoil it. But to summarize, Aden turns out to be a powerful leader in more ways than one.

And he learns to love very well.
