The Death of Grass by John Christopher

4.0

3 1/2 stars.

A disturbingly realistic look at what some of us will do to take care of our families. Similar style to The Road, this is a book that refuses to be flashy or romantic in its notions that the apocalypse would make monsters of us all. This is not a fun romp through the countryside but a scathing look at that famous British Stiff Upper Lip™. Every character becomes distasteful at some point with the book not holding back in its examination of people in crisis. This was much more powerful than I was expecting of a work written in the 50's. Definitely a classic.
