A Very Typical Family by Sierra Godfrey

3.0

I listened to the audiobook of this book, and cannot recommend listening to it. The narrator read every single male in the same voice and it was grating.  I suggest the written edition. I give the audio reading a 2 star.

As for the story itself: I was enjoying it for the most part until the last quarter. Sure, it’s “chick lit” but it was interesting and enjoyable and I was moderately intrigued to see where it’d go. Until the staircase scene. Completely unnecessary. Like what ?? And then - the cocky Boston boyfriend groveling?? Just no. First off a pretentious douche like him wouldn’t grovel, and would definitely just move on to working his next catch. and second that whole scene was totally pointless in the story !!! I was preparing for a 3.75 rounded to 4, but the above two plot points dropped it to a 3 for me.  It felt like the author tried to cram too many plot “twists” into the end (including the emergency medical scene … like why did that even happen? still unclear) for extra excitement, but it just didn’t work.
