Ali is a hit or miss author for me. Her STEM focused MFC can either be the thing I’m missing in life or a DNF bc the sciences get a little too science-y.
I was hesitant to read this one but so glad I did! She did a great job with this sci-fi creation. This is a werewolf and vampire characters in a mafia like arranged marriage/world. There’s is an organized structure to their domains, rules to follow and codes to abide by. We meet Misery as she accepts her fate once again as a pawn. Her marriage to Lowe will help keep the peace - and help her with a secret she’s keeping close to her heart.
I found Misery to be funny, witty, and relatable in how she just floats thru life. I loved Lowe and how he was always there without being there. Always a force without being a menance.
Their relationship develops as does a sub story resolving a member of the household and needing Lowe’s help with her closely guarded secret. There is a predictable 3rd scene breakup but it’s one of the better one I have read of recent. But it’s a HEA without being too cheesy.
Highly applaud the effort of this book!
