The Grand Ruin: Lance & Scarlet, Part One by J.C. Hawke

4.0

Lance and Scarlet's story is my favourite so far. I love how possessive Lance is and how he falls so hard for her and boy does he fall hard. He really put the effort in when it came to making sure Scarlet saw a future for them both and making sure they overcame any challenges that popped up. Lance surprised me with how caring his character is, as a side character in the other books I wouldn't have guessed this side of him.

Scarlet learns to stop being so selfless and starts to put herself first since she's not done much of that in previous years. She definitely kept Lance at arm's length since she never wanted to fall in love. Especially with her brother's best friend.

There story has a lot of back and forth, sometimes repetitive but I am excited for part 2. This was the most enjoyable of the series, I wish there was another round of editing involved because some of the story could have been reduced but it didn't put me off their story.
