I truly enjoyed this book. The writing is so elegant and all of the characters are so unique and so beautiful. It defies many ya tropes and you would be ridiculous to actively dislike this book. It kept me on my toes. I never knew what was part of the plan and what wasn’t but it all still made sense. The world and world building is fascinating. I do, however, have two main criticisms. Firstly, and probably least importantly, I found the writing to be unnecessarily dense at times. I understand the world is complicated and this definitely made the scene clearer, I still got bored occasionally. Secondly, I thought the ending was lacking. I’m not going to go into much detail because it’s not really important and probably mostly a personal preference. But for the amount of time that went into exploring not only these characters but also their relationships, I feel like there should’ve been a bit more. This kinda excludes kaz and inej.
Spoiler Because after everything they endured it was impossible for them to have this grandiose ending. Their relationship can’t heal each other from all of that trauma. But bro maybe just like a hug or something would’ve been nice, you know?
I think that’s all I really have to say. Overall, an amazing duology and definitely worth the hype.
