They Called Me Dragon: A Narrative Account of My Adventures on the Planet Earth by Gail Ann Gibbs

3.0

Cute. I enjoyed the premise and liked following the progression of the little community.

I could imagine reading this like a chapter book to an eight year old at bed time. Touches lightly on some topics such as religious zealotry, assault, and slavery, just enough to get the idea across and that they are bad. Enough to get a kid thinking about things.

I'm not super big into first-person narration but it works here.

Something that I think could have helped sell the bit would have been a forward about the translation process. I'd get curious as to why the universe had the same words, like 'mammal' and 'reptile' but of course this would be an artifact of translation.

I didn't intend to read in one sitting, but I did.
