A beautiful book I first read in elementary school. As an adult, I sobbed just as hard as I did as a kid (even already knowing the story). Rawls was a fascinating dude and wrote an incredible book that should be widely read. The realities of growing up in very rural areas in the mid-twentieth century are so removed from my own life that I find them fascinating. I'd be curious to know how those who had similar upbringings react to this book.
Graphic: Animal death and Blood
Moderate: Animal cruelty
If you're uncomfortable with descriptions of hunting, this is not the book for you. There's no unnecessary cruelty towards the hunted animals, but there are graphic descriptions of their deaths.
