I didn't think I was going to make it through this. I had a LOT of issues with this book.
The language is difficult, but eventually I did get used to it, though it definitely took a lot more effort to continue reading this one than a lot of other books. I slowed down my pace considerably, trying to get the most out of the story.
The writing is also not my favourite, from referring to 5 different characters as Miss Bennet, to suddenly referring to herself as the author out of nowhere. Reading " It is not the object of this work to give a description of Derbyshire" was so jarring! And other quirks like "----shire", those didn't bother me as much, but still took me out of it.
As for the story, I didn't find it funny :( As a casual reader and not particularly into this time of history as a topic, I had a difficult time following the social structure, and why I should care about certain things. I think that probably has a lot to do with why I didn't get the humour of the book.
Otherwise, it was alright. Definitely wouldn't read it again, didn't particularly enjoy it for myself, but I appreciate it for existing and am extremely proud for finishing it.
