Last Daughter of Krypton by Mike Johnson, Michael Green

3.0

I thought that this was well-done, although I think that it could've been stronger. The beginning of this volume is a well-written story about a lonely, alienated (well, literally alien, I guess) teenager who has to cope not only with her new location and powers, but the loss of everything that she's known. It's this loneliness and uncertainty that I think has always made Superman appealing, and it works here, without Kara coming off as obnoxiously angsty or bratty, which, in itself, is a big accomplishment.

I enjoyed the beginning of the volume more than the latter issues. While I appreciate the parallels between the Worldkillers and Kara, namely that they're seeking their purpose, knowledge of their origins, and a new place to belong, I don't really like the Worldkillers as villains. Eh. Also, it's like all the Worldkillers had to be female since Kara is female and can fight them? Or maybe artist Mahmud Asrar just likes drawing aliens boobs and boob armor? I do like the art, though which is less "shiny" than most other New 52 art with more pencil marks remaining for shading.
