The Dare Game by Jacqueline Wilson

Following on from, [b:The Story of Tracy Beaker|462684|The Story of Tracy Beaker (Tracy Beaker, #1)|Jacqueline Wilson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1320527485l/462684._SX50_.jpg|1951159], Tracy has been fostered by Cam; however, everything is not the perfect happily ever after that she expected. Not only is school awful and her teacher doesn't understand how brilliant her stories are, Cam doesn't love her because she doesn't buy her fancy clothes and lots of presents. Then Tracy's mum turns up and promises Tracy the life she's always dreamed of.

This book perfectly combines Tracy's funny and witty perspective with the sad reality of Tracy's situation. The topics of bullying, ditching school, peer pressure and setting expectations are all present in this book, which could all be great conversation starters for young children. Despite tackling these issues, the book still maintains a light tone and remains an enjoyable read.

Ideal for: children aged 9-13.
