The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan
5.0
Domestic Percy! (Per)sassy digs at boomers! Deep and insightful commentary on getting older! We are back, babyyyyy~
After slogging through the Heroes of Olympus series, which was multiple-POV of characters of incredibly varying of levels of interesting, and what pretty much constantly gave me "battle fatigue," I really loved how this new premise of the book basically forced the author to add in breaks of cute, cozy domesticity in between action/adventure scenes. Domestic Percabeth!!!!! Love to see it.
The humor in the book is edgier and a tad more mature (or as edgy as Rick Riordan can possibly be), and the cultural references have been modernized significantly since the original series. But it definitely doesn't go too far off the deep end, which I think will help make this book age rather well in the years to come. I also really liked how there's a really important, universal, and timeless underlying message of youth, mortality, and old age as opposed to the book being just one big hero's journey for the sake of saving the world.
Loved this book, can't wait for the next one!
