Lisa Gardner's books have a habit of sucking me in immediately, making me fly through the majority of the book in record time...only to find myself becoming slightly frustrated by the last act of the book.
My problem with Hide is this: As she did in the previous novel [b:Alone (Detective D.D. Warren, #1)|32527|Alone (Detective D.D. Warren, #1) |Lisa Gardner|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1168391513s/32527.jpg|235306], she took what was in my opinion a highly charged, truly suspenseful story, and took a much too easy and a bit silly way out in tying up the loose ends with the bad guy(s). It seems like she spends all her time in building the tension, and when she actually does the big 'reveal', it ends up feeling forced and a maybe like a bit of a letdown. Gardner peppers the story with numerous 'red herrings', almost to the point of leaving the reader confused by all the different characters and possible scenarios that could have occurred.
Once a particular character was introduced in the first third of the book, i could sense that he would end up being the bad guy. If for no other reason than the fact that the police seemed to write him off within 30 seconds of encountering him. Never a good idea in a suspense novel.
I will say, the actual ending provided a nice little twist that was unexpected, and i did end up finding myself willing to overlook a few small plot holes that never got explained. And... I am also a huge fan of Det. Bobby Dodge. So for those reasons alone, i ended up enjoying this book overall.
