This got off to a strong start and I enjoyed reading it, but it didn't quite give the payoff I was hoping for. The premise was really cool and I enjoyed the scene setting/ world building and all the flashbacks. There were a few plot points I couldn't really wrap my head around -
Rose's mission was pretty vague, the romances between Willow and Grant/ Rose and the Barber seemed to pop up out of nowhere after each couple spoke for no more than 5 minutes.
I enjoyed the White Alice perspective a lot.
They kept describing their community as 'self sufficient' so I was really looking forward to seeing what innovations these amazing women scientists had come up with to sustain the centre. In the end they were just stealing oil from various towns - pretty badass, but not self sustaining or related to their scientific abilities.
I enjoyed reading this book and looked forward to picking it up each time, but it just fell a bit flat by the end. I'll definitely keep an eye out for more from Michelle Min Sterling though!
