Tangled Past by Leah Braemel

3.0

This is one of those times I really wish I could give half stars. The love story here was actually much more compelling than I thought it would be. Since it started out as a "shotgun wedding" I was fairly sure I wasn't going to believe the developing relationship, but was pleasantly surprised in that regard.

What was missing then, you might ask? Some danger. I really think the whole stepfather/stepbrother/cattle rustling issue is taken care of much too quickly.
We never see the resolution on screen, only hear about what happens through a third party. I wanted to worry that the stepfather would show up at any moment and cause trouble, but that never happened. And who exactly was taking their cows? We never get the answer to that question.
With just a little more outside conflict, I think this story could have really soared.
