A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

3.25

3.25/5: the whole survive-to-learn, learn-to-survive magic school thing was right up my alley and the only reason i started the book. i actually mistook it for the source material of the tv show “a deadly class” w lana candor so i was quite bummed when i realized. the magic system but mostly the school itself was pretty cool and i had a fun time learned about it. i also liked el and orion’s dynamic and enemies-to-friends arc and it definitely made the story entertaining. but once all the world building was done and el and orion were on speaking terms, the story fell flat for me. i lowkey skimmed past the last third of the book to get to the ending but those last few lines might compel me enough to read the sequel…let’s see. this book was not by any means mind-blowing but definitely scratched my magic school series itch that i’ve been infected with ever since i discovered hp. so i’d give this a solid 3.25/5 stars.
