I really quite enjoyed this book which I came to have due to a historical fiction box I bought back in 2021. While I thought the writing was fairly basic and the plot slow-paced, the fact that it’s based on a true story blows my mind. I think the perspective it provides (depicting WW2 in a non-Western country) was fantastic. I thought the way it ended was a tiny bit dragged out, but I appreciated the “a few decades later” perspective that could have easily been left out. I am not sure if I’d be rushing out to read this author or this book again, but I enjoyed it greatly for what it was at the time I read it. I’d recommend this book for the easy reading and educational value.
