Although characters from the previous books greatly impact this story, and the club is a central issue, this book felt a bit different from the earlier stories. I’m unsure why, and it’s not necessarily bad. I enjoyed this book immensely. It is blisteringly hot and sexy with wonderful characters.
Of course, I was annoyed at Regan’s secret, but I’m not a fan of the big secret trope. As usual with such a situation, I understood her reasons in the beginning. Yet once Regan and Silas spent more time together and she got to know him, it just bothered me. She has underlying reasons for keeping this so close to the vest, not just the fact that she’s an undercover FBI agent. But still…it’s not my thing. I also had an issue with the word r*pe being bandied about as a sort of inside joke, and I can only assume it’s something the author would have worded differently these days. But it disrupted the flow of the story every time it came up.
Don’t worry, the good far outweighs the things that I didn’t like. The characters are both fantastic and work so well together. Silas knows when he has to take over and when he should give Regan free rein. He makes her feel safe and gives her leave to let go. They’re not just great together “in bed”, so to speak. (Beds aren’t often being used.) This couple works outside of the bedroom, too.
I loved that I never knew what these two were going to do next. With each other, in front of each other, with others. Whew! Hot, hot, hot.
Graphic: Sexual assault
Minor: Suicidal thoughts
