Play the Game by S.J. Sylvis

4.0

- marriage of convience
- enemies to lovers
- they’re obsessed with each other but will deny it
- there’s a cute cat!

This story follows a hockey player who has a bad reputation and asks a woman from the strip club to be his wife. At first, I was a bit iffy with the book but I have to say that it started to slowly grow onto me. I did have a difficult time with the names as I don’t often see a girl being named Scottie and a guy being Emory. It’s unique but a bit hard to get used to. I liked the storyline and thought it was well planned out. The pacing was very good for the most part of the book but the ending was very rushed. This book is told from both Scottie and Emory’s pov.

Scottie is the FMC of the story who is barely living on her paycheck and needs to figure things out. I liked her character and seeing her able to have the life she deserved especially with how complicated it was. Then we have Emory who is someone who we don’t truly know but would do anything for the people he loves. I do wish we got more of a story from him but overall he was still great. There are quite a few side characters but none that stuck out to me. I know a second book is coming so I guess we will see how it goes. The romance is marriage of convience, angst, “enemies” to lovers and forced proximity.

The ending was rushed and I wish we got to learn more about what happened from everything that was unfolded. Still I really enjoyed the book because the chemistry between the couple was just amazing. I recommend checking this book out especially if you love hockey romances.
