Thank you for the arc for an exchange of honest review.
One of the things I like most about Veronica's Lancet's writing is that she doesn't info dump from the get-go, which makes it easier for me to get into the book. She builds the fantasy world slowly, and it doesn't get overwhelming. She pulls me right out of the reading slump (whenever I am in it). Before reading, check the trigger warnings if you are uncomfortable with anything.
Barbara, aka "Barbi" Bancroft, she is a 21 years old obsessed with her dog and her favourite series. She is half Asian but brought up in West. She trusts people too easily, and that backfired several times in this book. But her pettiness is really what I strive to be 🤣 when it comes to revenge.
"The Villain" , he is really a villain. Whether he is redeemable is up to you guys. The length he can go for his lover, even killing people who trusted him, loved him. "The Villain" is different than the type of mmc I like or read. To be honest I didn't really like the mmc but that's not a problem because it was the intention of the author to write him that way and she successfully did it, she made me not like him.
At first, I got confused like who is the mmc. I thought it was Sir Damien, but then I read the blurb again, and no, it was definitely not Damien. It was the "villain". I was really excited to meet the mmc, but his interaction with the fmc felt a little bit fake at 60-80% . I was thinking maybe it was only me, but NO! There was a reason for this, and when I finished reading the book, oh boy, I understood why I felt that way. The emotional roller coaster I went through while reading this book!! I loved this book, even though half of the time I was questioning the villain's intention.
This book ends on a cliffhanger, and it should be illegal to end the book that way ðŸ˜
Really!! I need the second book right now!! I finished reading it yesterday, and I have been continuously thinking about it and kept rereading the ending. Wishing that the next book will appear magically.
I skimmed the spicy part of the book cause I was too invested in the plot to pay attention to the sex, although there were only a few intimate scenes, mostly at the end.
