Now, this year (not even that long ago) I fell in love with Lily Mayne when I finally read her famous Monstrous series. I also fell in love with Nik Knight when I read their newest release, Passing Through Purgatory. So, naturally, I had to read their co-written monster romance books as well. And it did not disappoint.

I fell in love with Cody and Nor, guys. I have such deep, warm affection for Cody, which is born from an intimate understanding of what he's going through with his family. Nor, on the other hand, I just adore with all my heart because he's just so dang sweet and loveable. (I got so many Seraph vibes from him, truly.) While, on paper, this story should be strange and unrealistic... The way the story is told makes it seem very understandable why these two gravitate towards each other. I definitely could see how Cody ends up seeing this "monster" under his bed as a sort of safe haven. Because he's so deeply lonely and miserable in his life, Nor provides companionship, makes him less alone and maybe even a little safer. Their relationship is so achingly beautiful and deep and wonderful and I loved every second of it.

Cody's family, though... Yikes. I hated his (half-)brother Brad, and his father. I was sort of indifferent towards his mother, though I also kind of dislike her at the same time. We didn't see much of her, which was probably the point. But his father and Brad just... No. Hate them both.

I also have to give major props to the writing, which is just stunning. Truly. Deeply atmospheric, and so, so beautiful that I collected a few quotes just to show you what I mean.

In short, highly recommend this book and will dive into the next one right away.

Quotes:

And the entire time, the atmosphere would breathe and hum around me until my skin prickled and my hairs stood on end. Like the air was thick with static, heavy with the expectancy for something that never came.

----------

When my brain finally calmed and sleep inevitably claimed me, Nor’s fingers were still wrapped around mine. I never pulled away. Neither did he.

----------

And in his hovel, deep in the ground where only we could find it, our love glowed like the jewels in our treasure chest.
