I got this ebook for free on stuff-your-kindle day. I did not realize it was book 2 in a series until 40% through the book when a lot of things didn’t make sense so I looked it up. Oops.

As for the rating, it was a decent cozy witchy read for around Halloween. There was no spicy romance, just kissing, if that’s more your thing. I prefer a little grown up romance so was a little disappointed.

The premise of the story was good. A single witch queen, Rosie, living on her own trying to make ends meet while raising her daughter, and a witch king destined by prophecy to be with her. I don’t know what that prophecy entails besides them marrying each other though because I didn’t read the first book so I was really confused for most of the book. Also, with them both having southern accents in this book (his seems southern by how it’s written, even though he is Irish), I just find it a little funny to think of a king and queen with those accents.

Most of this book centered around Rosie and her friend Tammy empowering each other to be independent women able to make their own choices after both were cheated on by their husbands.

I was annoyed with Declan after an old relationship, Gemma, came into town and he hadn’t even mentioned her to Rosie before, even though he was starting a relationship with her too and living with her. Even after his excuses, it didn’t excuse that he never mentioned this other woman to her and the circumstances around it. It also annoyed me that Rosie secretly caught them having a conversations in a motel through the door, but then he denied this other women was ever at the motel with him, and Rosie never questioned that as a blatant lie. That didn’t seem realistic.

To me, Declan doesn’t seem to have much of a personality. He seems ‘pussy whipped’ by his old relationship he is trying to get out of and doesn’t stick up for Rosie when Gemma is blatantly rude to her. If he is trying to leave her and be with Rosie, why does he always just shrug and do whatever Gemma says instead of being on Rosie’s side? Why does he hang out with her at all?

Other than that, I enjoyed the magic and the storyline in this book but there was not near enough magic. It was mostly about relationships.
