The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor

3.0

Rating: 3.5 stars

Good crime thrillers read like a movie script. The narrative is usually so compelling that it makes you visually imagine every situation like a movie scene. With The Chalk Man, Tudor creates a riveting story filled with suspense and intrigue.

TCM is at heart a story about friendship, childhood friendship in particular and alternates between the summer of 1986 and 2016. We are introduced to Fat Gav, Metal Mickey, Hoppo, Nicky, and the narrator Eddie - their adventures when they were 12 and how one summer changed their entire world. 30 years later, Ed is still plagued by nightmares of what happened and the past is catching up.

I'd definitely recommend this book. The only reason I couldn't give it 4 stars was because I guessed the mystery well beforehand. For a first time writer, though, Tudor has dished out a fantastic book. And there are some absorbing quotes which will definitely resonate with everyone. Do try.
