The Knockout Queen by Rufi Thorpe

4.0

This was my second book of the month and when I first started I was not sure how to feel. The slightly cynical, damaged male protagonist gave me PTSD to reading the Goldfinch (which I for some reason could never get behind) but I was so pleasantly surprised to find that after about half-way I couldn't put the book down. It sort of gives the feeling of watching a car crash in slow motion but at the same time you have that feeling that you can't look away. An intense story that takes place in an unassuming suburban setting that is a dark but sometimes laugh out loud story of coming of age.
