I randomly picked up “The Cloisters” at a book store knowing absolutely nothing about it or having it recommended to me, which is very rare these days, and I’m SO glad I did.

From the description, I was expecting more of a magical/fantasy novel but instead the novel focuses on a group of museum workers working to find signs of the occult in the past and the lengths they’ll go for academic acclaim. These was wonderfully written with very little filler, you could almost feel the author holding back her knowledge around the artifacts and history being studied in the novel to keep the pace fast and succinct. It was the right choice as I enjoyed this more then other history-based novels I’ve read.

There are a few twists and surprises in this one that caught me off guard and made this a quick read for me.
