Fire Falling by Elise Kova

3.0

I think one of my problems in the books is Aldrik is supposed to be 7 years older than Vhalla, but they actually act more the same age. Aldrik being the general and the crown prince does cause his “cold” states towards Vhalla, but he seems a little emotionally stunted to me. To be fair, given his upbringing (or what we’ve also learned of his upbringing), he probably is, but it’s a little off-putting for me sometimes. Otherwise, I’m really glad the hot-cold stage got aired out in this book and we shouldn’t have that anymore!

Vhalla in the book wavered between finding her inner strength beyond her age and experience to reverting back to her age for me. The end-ish when she had to conceal her identity was a little strange for me in the manner it was written. I did really enjoy the side characters she’s developed relationships with, though. I also like Prince Baldair, but he’s a little bit of that bad boy so how can you not?!

The story overall was better in this book than the 1st book, but I think the romance flip flopped for me. I enjoyed the romance in book 1 more than book 2. I will say I’m glad we weren’t left lingering in the hot/cold, will/won’t they limbo for long in the series! I’m just waiting for the book where everything is on the same level.

I am VERY happy, though, that I have the complete series to listen to because the ending in book 2 is a CLIFFHANGER. What kind of ending was that?!

If you’re smut checking, there is only kissing up to book 2.
