Rise from Darkness: How to Overcome Depression through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychology: Paths Out of Depression Towar by Kristian Hall

5.0

"Being depressed is a bit like coming from another planet," the author says, recalling many years of trying to deal with his father. He addresses the powerlessness of depression and how the afflicted person must truly choose to try to change. Likewise, he describes brain make-up in a clear concise way, with many analogies to make things visible for readers without science backgrounds. There's an emphasis on stopping destructive thought patterns and making new neural pathways instead of constantly retreading them.
While he cites popular psychological viewpoints and briefly explains their theories, most of this is in simple terms. Everyday examples and small boxes with definitions and asides likewise clarify everything. He explains that his personal library as well as experience have taught him how to deal with depression.
There are simple small steps she proposes (healthy food, comforting clothes, distracting friends and a walk out in nature) and longer-term solutions
There are also the bigger ones: journaling, exercising, counseling, meditation techniques, and more you likely haven't thought of, though he has. He includes exercises for ones journal or to say aloud that can help. He adds all the techniques together for a plan for a super week and thus a stronger, more balanced life.
