I thought I knew going in how brutal this was going to be from reading the blurb and the content warnings the author includes at the beginning. I did not. I honestly nearly had to DNF this about half a dozen times because it was So Much. Legitimately horrifying. But thankfully once I hit about the 30% mark, the worst of the horrors was over and I could settle into the rest of the story.
It was full of twists and turns and I definitely didn't see a lot of them coming. I don't know if I'll continue and read book 2. I mean, I liked the characters and the way the story played out. But it really was an extremely stressful reading experience and I don't know if I have the emotional bandwidth for that right now.
