Love in the Time of Dinosaurs by Kirsten Alene

5.0

I have to admit that this is my first official Bizarro novel. I've got a few on my tbr list here on Goodreads but this has been my first chance to read something in the genre. I wasn't sure what to expect what with the premise (though I do tend to be drawn toward the more unusual stories and have enjoyed a few gonzo books in my time)about a monk falling in love with a dinosaur in the midst of a war between the two.

I'm happy to say that I loved this book and that the premise, while unusual, didn't make for a silly story at all! In fact I enjoyed Kirsten Alene's prose. It draws you in very quickly and actually takes the many strange elements of this world and places them so carefully in the midst of that narration that none of it seems all that unusual. This is the protagonist's world and these are his people, their conflict and their enemy. It takes very little time to get drawn in and it successfully offers you a great story in a the short length of the book.

I'd definitely recommend it to my friends who like bizarro and as a good gateway book into the genre as a whole :)
