Robert `curthose', Duke of Normandy by William M. Aird

3.0

When reading this biography it was clear from the outset, that Aird wanted to vindicate Duke Robert. And I do mostly agree with him, that Robert has been overly harshly judged by posterity. But I do lament the fact that Henry I suffered in comparison. While Robert became the hero Henry was gradually turned into the big bad wolf. Not saying that this isn't somewhat justified, but what Aird did here was do to Henry, what he has been complaining about people doing to Robert.
