We All Looked Up by Tommy Wallach

3.0

This story was interesting and unique, but came up kind of short at the end. I understand that there was no way to win in that type of situation, but a non-answer was NOT the right approach.

The characterization was great. I wanted the best for each character, and they had some pretty cool thoughts. At the same time, they all kind of morphed into the same type of person. Reckless, young, stupid, desperate… You know how it goes.

I really hated how one person’s story ended. I find it hard to believe that things could escalate like that. Maybe I’m naive, but I can’t imagine such scumminess in the face of adversity. I honestly think people are more likely to come together with a sense of helpless camaraderie. Oh well.

I also didn’t like how everyone was either painted as a slimy mafioso or pensive hippie. It was hard to relate to them, that’s for sure!
