Every Breath You Take, by Mary Higgins Clark

2.0

Maybe it is time to give up on Mary Higgins Clark? This book wasn't bad exactly (and lately I've enjoyed the Under Suspicion novels better than her stand-alones) but it wasn't really good either. Frankly you can tell it is written by 2 people because characters change with little or no warning. At the end of the last book (and the beginning of this one) Alex was a jackass and all of a sudden he realizes that he was a jackass who made a huge mistake and changes his mind. But do he and Laurie have a conversation about what let to his being a jackass at the end of the last book, of course they don't they just pick up where they left off. The reader has access to both character's inner monologue so we know that they are in the same place, but they don't know that.

Also, my main problem with these books is that Laurie has been nearly murdered in at least half of them. I would think that she would either stop producing these specials or hire a bodyguard because this is just ridiculous.
