I just can’t. I can’t take it anymore.
The writing is so convoluted. Something that can be described in probably a sentence is described with three paragraphs. There is so much that doesn’t even need to be included, but is — in excruciating detail. It makes everything so boring.
So far we get a prologue where we witness the current toxic relationship between Milo and Raven. Then we jump back to their teens and…it. Is. Slow. I mean, it’s good to get their history. But this seriously could’ve been summed up so much better. Just get to it already. What happened in the past to change their relationship? Why drag it out so much? Do we really need to know every detail, even the ones that don’t even move the story forward?
Milo I feel absolutely terrible for. He’s had to grow up and take care of basically 3 kids as a teen himself. The parents of Milo, Mia, and Reid, as well as Raven’s parents are completely absent, basically abandoning their kids and putting a teenage Milo in charge. Who does that? It’s not even legal, dude!
And then there’s Raven. We’re told how she’s so MATURE and so GROWN UP with how she acts…except not really. Reid acts like a total jealous douchbag and tells Raven she can’t have a friendship with Milo and him at the same time. What? Seriously? What an asshole. Then she AGREES and…talks to Milo about it? Nope. No, instead of having a MATURE and GROWN UP conversation with him about it, she just completely freezes him out of her life with no explanation whatsoever. He’s so utterly confused and broken-hearted. I’m sorry, but that just makes her a total bitch. You know what else makes her a bitch? He gets her this amazing birthday present to Paris and does she thank him? Nope…still freezing him out. She’s all like “k…byeee! I’ll just take your brother with me instead of you!”. Fuck this bitch! Does she have a soul? You’re kidding me with this right?
I don’t know what happens from here. But I predict that Milo goes nutso from being shut out by the only person that has been there for him, more bitchiness from Raven, and I couldn’t care less about Reid.
I just CAN’T STAND a bitchy heroine that has no empathy whatsoever. She’s not even fun bitchy, she’s ice cold robotic bitchy And I can already tell that my heart will not be warming up to Raven. And I don’t like the writing style either (as said above). I’m done with this one. Moving on…
P.S. Oh and one more thing…. I HATE books that incorporate COVID into the plot. Hate it. I don’t want to be reminded of this shit fest when I’m reading. I read to ESCAPE it.
