I grew up loving the movie as a kid. It's the ultimate love story. But watching it as an adult, I recognized some pretty unhealthy characteristics from both of the main characters.

I decided to pick up the book and compare. The book is more genuine and I find the writing kind of simple. I respect the author and the story but the author's personal note in the back of the book put a bit of a damper on it for me because it turned out he was very intentional about writing a love story based on what would be popular in the market, and not so much because he had this great love story in his head to share. Maybe I'm being overly critical but I expected more.
