Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong

adventurous challenging hopeful mysterious tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated

4.5

My first Chloe Gong and certainly not my last! I loved this from start to finish. To me, it was unique and refreshing and even outside of my go to. It has a more dystopian feel than the novels I typically read so that’s exciting. The location is intriguing, even tho it sounds pretty horrible, the multiple characters are different and all have a mysterious element to them that makes me want more of them. And the overall “game” took a popular idea but made it unique by having it take place in the city during regular day to day life. But hold on let’s talk about the main theme, these people can body jump?! Freakin cool!!!
I’ve seen some reviews about there being a lot of info dumping to build the world but I didn’t feel that way. I felt it was well balanced and done well to the point where I could grasp it without having to reread to understand like I do with some fictional fantasy worlds. My only complaint is that I didn’t feel the chemistry between the two romantic MCs and that left me wanting BUT that ending has me shocked and I need more soon!

Tropes & themes:
-badass fmc
-deadly games
-royalty
-secret identities
